Halston Woman / Halston Man (Halston)

By Dane

Halston recently introduced two new fragrances in the classic smooshed-pebble bottles (apparently designed by Elsa Perreti). I couldn't recall seeing the women's bottle before, so my first thought was a lovechild between Feminite du Bois and Narciso Rodriguez Essence, but lo and behold, an Internet search revealed the original Halston Woman, and they are indeed the same shape. The men's is again the classic bottle used for Z-14 and friends. Both scents are fine, allegedly modern interpretations of their forefathers (and mothers). Clearly panel tested, but fine.

Halston Woman

Apparently I'm supposed to be smelling a "modern rose bouquet". Woman opens with a nice, milky peach a la Chant d'Aromes, soon followed by a generic powdery floral, which I guess leans in a "rosy" direction. Overall, very pretty and nicely done. Almost a Chinatown without the gross.

Halston Man

A little bit of Z-14 can be found in this bottle, although thoroughly modernized. Basically a spicy-woods/fougere accord with a zesty citrus topnote, followed by a soapy musk of no particular interest. Inoffensive, nicely done, cheap, and cheerful.

Both fragrances have a uniquely "adult" appeal to them. I supposed you could call them nostalgic. They probably won't appeal to the teeny-boppers at the mall, and we can be grateful for that.
