These are the things I know:
(a) Une Fleur de Cassie smells great no matter what form it takes;
(b) I'm a boy and I'm lazy; and
(c) all cream-bases have a smell.
To elaborate, Malle's Beurre Exquise in the form of UFdC is lovely stuff. Heavily fragranced (so much so that the oil separates), beautifully packaged, and silky smooth in texture. My issue is the added smell that the cream contributes to the perfume.
Overall, the general smell is the same, save for maybe a slightly subdued topnote. If you hadn't tried the alcohol-based perfume, you probably wouldn't even notice the element the cream contributes (how would you?), and I'm probably being overly critical, but for the price Malle charges for this stuff, I feel I'm allowed. The drydown of the liquid takes on a smooth, sandalwood and vanilla accord, while the cream has an added element that I just can't love.
Of course, if you have dry skin, are willing to spend the time applying a cream (which you might do anyway...I do not and find the whole process a bit greasy and time consuming (see (b) above)), and would like an additional method of smelling like your favourite Acacia, then by all means, this beurre's for you.
