I hate Chinatown. There, I said it. If you're already offended, no point in reading on...it only gets worse.
I tried, I really did. I think I've tested this putrid swill 5 separate times now, and with each wearing, it only seems to annoy me more. After a nauseatingly strong peach-from-hell topnote, Chinatown veers into a cloying, syrupy mess of amber and flowers. I'm automatically reminded of walking by hippy stores burning cheap incense to cover-up whatever else is going on inside. The drydown is no better - a dead-ringer for airplane lavatory handsoap (you know, the one that makes your hands feel like they're going to crack and bleed?)
I know it's popular. I know it's in a cutesy bottle that makes passersby say "awwww." I know it was created by a beloved and talented perfumer - and I don't care. If ever I had to sit next to someone wearing this, I'd hold my breath until I passed out.
For all the CT lovers, please do leave a comment and defend your peach (before I'm forced to toss it in the compost pile where it belongs.)

Honestly, I'm not sure I detect peach in it, but I'm one of those people who absolutely love it (and I usually hate sweet smelling things) and people love the way it smells on me. I know that one is a totally love/hate relationship, on some people it just doesn't work. I gave it to my friend to try after she smelled it on me, and it just went bad. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Dane-but then I hate all of them Bonds. Especially after she sued over the word peace . Where's the REAL Bond when you need him , shaken not stirred ?Can you say boycott...
ReplyDeleteIt'll get no defense from me. I am a hater on the whole Bond series. They all smell vile and chemical-ish to me. Thanks for the refreshing dose of morning vitriole! :^)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. The first time I smelled it, after reading all the hype, I couldn't believe that this cloying, syrupy, synthetic mess was the same substance.
ReplyDeleteAye, count me in as a hater. When I tried it, my impression was of the same mess you described in the review. Literally a mess.
ReplyDeleteAnd so potent, it is the only sample in my possession that is kept in its own little baggie. Quarantined, but stored for reference.
Well I was fully expecting to get trashed for this post...I'm surprised!!
ReplyDeletePéché Cardinal by MDCI is far superior if you wanted to try to find a better peach. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief. I have disliked every Bond I've tried (the rose one, the margarita one, the hamptons one, more I don't recall). But I'd always heard this was a standout of the line; now I don't feel like I must seek it out. Thanks.
