As I continue my hate-on for Bond, we arrive at Broadway Nite. The sleazy name and trite spelling would seem to indicate the type of scent this is, and it doesn't disappoint. BN is a vulgar, over-powering scent...but it has its place.
Maurice Roucel is known for his complex-in-formula, but easy-on-the-nose scents, and BN is a prime example. They often list various floral notes, none of which are actually perceptible in the scent, but overall achieve a grand presence without having to rely on something found in nature. BN does just that, but with the volume turned up full blast at every level. From the bitter topnotes to the citrus-floral heart to the neon-vanilla drydown, BN never has a moment of silence. The advertised notes would indicate a new take on Tocade, which it is in a way, but BN takes off the classy gown that Tocade wears and swaps it for a slutty miniskirt and lucite heels.
I can respect Broadway Nite (which is more than I can say for most of the Bond collection), but it's not my cup of tea. People who love Poison, Amarige and the like should give this one a shot. But please, for the children's sake, go easy on it.
Year: 2003
Perfumer: Maurice Roucel
Notes: Green Violet, Rose, Vanilla Beans, Musk

Hi Dane
ReplyDeleteYup, I'll stick with Tocade. I do like a (very) few Bonds, but this is not one of them. In fact, I can't think of a single floral in the line that I find appealing.
Silver Factory, New Haarlem and Madison Soiree are the three that I wear successfully. My son wears the first two as well as Bleecker Street.
And Chinatown? Running. For my life.
I LOVE Broadway Nite!
ReplyDeleteThen again, I also love Amarige and Poison...so...
Over the top, in your face, Roucel fragrances are all good with me.
The aldehydes in Broadway Nite nearly pop off the skin.
I like several Bond's: New Haarlem, Lexington Avenue, Silver Factory, Madison Soiree, New York Fling and West Side.
Chinatown, the critically acclaimed one, is not for me.
i am so excited to try Broadway Nites! my love of Tocade and Maurice Roucel have made me take out the lucite heels and give 'em a polish. Gah Chinatown was the WORST.SCRUBBER.EVER for me. xoxo
