Parfumerie Generale has some truly unique and outstanding fragrances. I find I often have instant love when sampling many of their selections, but I've yet to actually warrant the purchase of a full bottle. Continuing on with that tradition, Aomassai is once again a remarkable scent...that I probably won't be purchasing.
Aomassai opens with a super sweet hazelnut accord (not all that far from Nutella). A bitter licorice note keeps your teeth from rotting, and before you know it, the sweetness has all but disappeared. What you're left with is a smoky incense-wood that is dark, haunting, and surprisingly transparent. The drydown veers back toward the gourmande beginning with a soft vanilla note that leaves a pleasant sweetness on the skin.
Overall, this is a truly beautiful scent that deserves testing. Maybe it's because I'm just not meant for this genre of perfumery that I don't want a bottle...or maybe it's because I already own Douce Amere.
