Cristalle Eau Verte (Chanel)

By Dane

Tis the season for summer flankers. Typically I don't get excited about that sort of thing, but since Chanel's glorious No. 5 Eau Premiere, my ears perked up at a possible match with the Cristalle brand.

Cristalle Eau Verte is pretty much exactly what I thought it would be - Cristalle watered down tenfold with a bucket of tingly aldehydes added. The spirit of Cristalle is still there, but I have a hard time feeling the same excitement I did for No.5 EP.

EV opens with soft aldehydes...I can't tell which exactly, but while No. 5 EP's felt yellow and lemony, Cristalle EV's feel green and bitter. The body of the scent has the original's herbal-melon accord, but softened with even more aldehydic character, teetering ever-so-slightly on the verge of soapiness. The drydown is your typical floral accord of no particular interest.

Swapping the cap for a simple white number is a classic Chanel touch - updating without becoming vulgar. I'm sure this will sell well, but I won't be rushing back to buy a bottle. We'll see if No. 19's flanker does better (completely speculation of course).

Year: 2009
Perfumer: Jacques Polge
Notes: Magnolia, Jasmine, Lemon, Bergamot, White Flowers, Neroli.

  1. This flanker galore does have to stop, I'm serious, it's not even funny anymore...

  2. Oh, how disappointing. I was so looking forward to this. The original Cristalle EDT disappears on me anyway, I don't need something more transparent.
