Bendelirious (Etat Libre d'Orange)

By Dane

Does anyone else remembering having a Shirley Temple cocktail while your parents celebrated with champagne? To my nose, Bendelirious captures that memory perfectly...fizzy gingerale, sweet grenadine, and a cherry lanced with a little plastic sword. Even the smell of plastic and the aftermath of stale champagne come into the mix.

Bendelirious was created by Etat Libre d'Orange for New York department store Henri Bendel, and is said to capture the "quintessential Bendel Girl – a confident yet playful girl whose instincts extend to every part of her life." I doubt I meet said qualifications, but I'm going to steal her scent either way. Bendelirious is a beautiful mix of candied cherry, iris, champagne and leather, and the overall effect is quite something. Those familiar with Encense et Bubblegum may find certain aspects familiar, but while E&C mixed pink smells with resinous incense, Bendelirious amps it up to red fruits and a dry iris-violet accord.

A unique and masterful composition true to both the vision of the department store, as well as Etat Libre's point-in-time visions. ELdO bottles seem to be outnumbering those from Lutens in my collection these days...curious that.
