Mouchoir de Monsieur (3rd Opinion) (Guerlain)

By Dane

To me Mouchoir de Monsieur represents a proper French men's fragrance. Eau de Cologne basics, subtlety, and a bit of stink to get rid of that pesky "just washed feeling".

MdM is essentially Jicky with the treble, midtone, and bass adjusted. Imagine listening to your favourite song on your own sound system, and then the same song on your grandparents'. Still the same song, but with each detail slightly adjusted. Jicky is a beautiful and unique scent, and Mouchoir would easily match that beauty to some, but not me.

Opening with a tart citrus and a punch of kitty-bum, MdM goes right for your throat. Guerlain's typical herbs and florals follow suit, followed by the vanillic drydown. Where Jicky manages to impress me is with its ability to change from one scene to the next, all the while maintaining the same volume. MdM, on the other hand, opens loud, then softens to a low hum. Longevity is decent, but the heart of the scent and drydown are extremely soft and demure, leaving only a slight trace of sweetness on the skin.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Mouchour de Monsieur to anyone, but as long as Jicky is still on the market, a bottle won't be in my future.
