It will be no surprise to anyone familiar with my love of Cartier's Declaration that I would share some of that love with Malle's Bigarade duo. They share many things in common, and where Declaration lacks (ie - brightness), Bigarade shines.
The Bigarades are composed primarily as a twist on the traditional Eau de Cologne theme using the bitter orange as their base (or top, as it were). The differences between the two are subtle, until you spray one on each hand. Cologne Bigarade starts off with a slightly green, yet utterly realistic orange note. Smooth, subtle, and demure with the slightest dusting of cumin. Slight floral notes show in the heart (rose as per the notes), and while decidedly short-live on the skin, a trace of green wood tones are left on the skin.
Bigarade Concentree, on the other hand, starts the show with a bang. Sour is the first word that came to mind when comparing the two. While Cologne had a smoothness to it, Concentree seemed harsh in comparison. Granted, Concentree will win most over in terms of longevity, but Cologne, in my opinion, has superior blending and contrast between notes. Like Declaration, the first try was the charm.
