Expecting a review of the latest Malle? Sorry, not today. I, of course, would never imply that the great house of Frederic Malle swiped the name from the cutesy little outfit called Crazylibellule and the Poppies, but technically, their "Dans Tes Bras" came first...not that Crazylibellule is innocent in the copy game either.
Dans Tes Bras/In Your Arms is a straight-up knock-off of Serge Lutens' marvelous Bois series. Normally I would never approve of such a thing, but DTB has one thing going for it - it cost me $20 CDN (that's almost free in USD or Euros!) Now that Feminite du Bois has been moved from the Shiseido counter to the Lutens line, the price will no doubt increase, making this little dupe an attractive option for some.
DTB doesn't really have any topnotes, per se. It goes on with a slightly plasticy smell, but then stays relatively linear. While it closely resembles Feminite du Bois & Bois et Fruits, it is much more subdued, and a bit "peachier". Since my love affair with Mitsouko, peach, in subtle inclusions, has had great appeal to me, so DTB really is a fun addition to my collection.
Another thing DTB has going for it is the format - an adorable little cardboard tube containing a solid wax. No alcohol, no colouring, no parabens (apparently those are bad). The packaging is even recyclable when you're finished. Nice little details, and a fun gift (in this case, to me, from me).
Does this mean I no longer covet a bottle of Bois de Violettes? Not quite, but this will do in the meantime.
Notes: Guniper Berries (their spelling, not mine), Peach, Musk, Sandalwood, Cedar, Amber, Patchouli
