Miroir des Envies (Thierry Mugler)

By Dane

Oh the weirdness. Looking online for the advertised notes, you'd think that Miroir des Envies was something utterly dull, seeing as the only description found is "jasmine". Not the case.

MdE is anything but dull. Opening with a strange, nutty accord that automatically made me think of buttered popcorn (or at least the Jelly Belly version of it), the jasmine makes a fairly subtle entrance and is almost absorbed by the creamy strangeness of the opening. Mugler's website describes other notes as "toast and sun-warmed skin", which I guess is somewhat accurate, and consistent with the overall strangeness of the scent.

Sometimes unusual means unwearable, but in this case, I'd say it's successful both in being strange, and being attractive and approachable. What will keep the public from buying any of the scents in this series is the price. At $3USD per ml, they've trumped both Serge Lutens and Chanel's upscale lines. For a brand sold in most malls in America, that's just not realistic.

A note to the Mugler people - your website is an obnoxious experience. Why do I have to have window after window open, each one with a new hourglass making me wait, only to be greeted with bad music (that wouldn't turn off) and a lack of information?

Year: 2008

  1. I got toast and Sweet Courreges from this one and I'm looking forward to trying it on skin.
