Dior Homme (Dior)

By Thomas

When I started listening to classical music, certain pieces connected with me, others did not. For instance, Beethoven’s Moonlight sonata was quickly beloved, while his seventh sonata took me a long time to understand. Finally, one night I drove on a two-lane road between two stands of tall pine trees, and I finally understood.

I must have tried Dior Homme at least a dozen times until I finally got it, and even now – now that I get it – it still isn’t me, except for once in a while. Dior Homme is…pensive and unhurried and cool. This is the scent of a man who slowly runs his fingers along his lover’s back, and is content doing just that. Dior Homme opens with a cool iris scent.

However, the drydown…how do I put this…lipstick and cocoa puffs. There. I said it. Each time I wear this, once the top fades and the heart settles a bit, I get lipstick and cocoa puffs. Of course, we can break it all down into the usual notes – Iris, wax, fish scales, cocoa, high-fructose corn syrup, blah, blah, blah. But like clockwork, the mind says “Lipstick and cocoa puffs”.

Is this a bad thing, to smell of feminine make-up and children’s breakfast cereal? I cannot reconcile myself to this but given DH’s popularity, perhaps you will have better luck than I will. At least give this one a shot, but please wait for drydown before you hand over the lucre.
