Angéliques Sous La Pluie (2nd Opinion) (Frederic Malle)

By Thomas

Every once in a while a rapier makes a better weapon than an axe. Some days, you just don’t want the full blast of flowers and spices and what-not. And, once in a while, even the standard classical cologne seems cloying and overbearing. Enter Angelique Sous la Pluie.

This one opened with a bitter green blast which lasted mere seconds. After this came pink pepper in the mode of Isfarkand, and light herbs in the background. Nothing overpowering here, sheer and transparent as plenty of the Ellena scents tend to be.

This scent gets some love from the older guys, largely because into the heart this strongly resembles a gin and tonic. Seriously. Crisp Juniper, light botanicals, fresh, dry, and clean. Just the thing to go with madras shirts, khaki shorts, and boat shoes.

The development pretty well stops at the gin and tonic stage, but, so what? Why ruin this with something else? What would you add to a good G&T anyway? Highly recommended for summertime.

Year: 2000
Perfumer: Jean-Claude Ellena
Notes: Angelica, Juniper Berries, Coriander, Musk, Cedar

  1. Transparent, definitely. Just a little too transparent for me. Smells just like Bombay Sapphire, which is not a bad thing at all.

  2. Mmmm . . . Bombay Sapphire. I love the smell of it.

    In a martini glass.

Not so certain I'd want to wear it, but hey, there are worse liquors to smell like.
