Iris Noir (Yves Rocher)

By Dane

Everyone who knows me (or who reads this blog) knows my passion for iris. Although Iris Silver Mist will always be my holy grail, I still seek out all the new iris-based scents I can to see if anything competes. Divine's L'Homme de Coeur and Le Labo's Iris 39 have their charms, but nothing (as of yet) can top ISM.

This brings us to Iris Noir, part of Yves Rocher's upscale(ish) Secret d'Essences line which includes the lovely Voile d'Ambre. Iris scents of course use the root of the plant (Orris Root) to give that dry, buttery note that is so captivating. I assume YR was going after the idea of the scent of the flower itself with Iris Noir, because I get no hint of iris whatsoever. What I do get is a very pretty berry-tinted floral with notes of rose and violet, not unlike Rosine's La Rose de Rosine or Guerlain's Insolence.

Iris, no. Noir, no. Cheap and cheerful, yes.
