Vetiver Babylone (Armani Prive)

By Dane

Every perfume house has to have a vetiver, and while fragrances like Sel de Vetiver raised the bar on the interpretation of this popular ingredient, many houses continue to release tried-and-true representations that merely compliment their other offerings (not necessarily a bad thing).

Vetiver Babylone, part of Armani Prive's "Eaux" collection, doesn't really do anything new with vetiver, in fact there isn't much vetiver focus at all in the fragrance, but it is a likable summer scent that will probably sell well with people who have no idea what vetiver actually smells like.

VB is frankly a citrus scent. A tart, tangy, and very natural topnote is much like any other citrus opening, but very refined and expensive smelling. A not-so-natural citrus heart follows, and finally a few hours later the very faint vetiver shows up. Like many in the line, it is very subtle and muted, and although I wouldn't turn down a free bottle, I probably wouldn't run out to buy it either.
