Lovely (Sarah Jessica Parker)

By Dane

I'm probably shooting into the dark with this one, but I honestly think that Lovely is great men's scent...almost more so than as a women's scent. There is nothing drastic or inventive about it, and is fairly predictable on a woman, but on a man, it comes across as unexpected and striking.

Lovely opens with a juicy, aldehydic note. This abstract and sparkling floral note soon fades to a woodsy musk with an astrigent, clean feeling to it. No notes really jump out at you, but remain balanced and blended. Musk is (probably) my favourite note, and I'm thrilled to come across new scents that add a new facet. SJP's musk is clean, metallic, and dry. A nice balance that falls somewhere in between your average laundry musk and a more masculine musk such as Kiehl's or Malin+Goetz.

Everything about Lovely is girly (except the scent itself), and I admit that. The frilly pink bottle with the ribbon, the celebrity associated with it, and most of all the name. Either way, it's a great scent and I wear it no matter what. For the apprehensive guys reading this, at least try it...you can pretend it's for your girlfriend when you end up buying it.

  1. Hi Dane

I finally bought a dicsount bottle of Lovely last week and was really surprised how much I liked it and how well, advertising campaign to the contrary, it works for a guy. I'm not a huge fan of musk myself as it seems to wear close to think skin and I like to make a big stink, but this a great one. The comparison to Kiehls is an apt one. It's the only other musk I own and like, which might explain my being so drawn to Lovely. I also have Covet, like it a lot, and find it to be pretty unisex. I might be the only one who likes it. I'm glad I finally gave Lovely a go. Thanks for writing about it.
