Following the odd success of Creed's much maligned Love in White, comes its darker sister, Love in Black. Probably not going to be high on the must-try list for guys, but perfectly wearable by a man (and a great gift for a lady).
The trend of iris fragrances has been abundant in the past few years. Prada took a citrusy, synthetic approach, L'Artisan Parfumeur took a natural, expensive approach, and Creed follows suit with a lovely powdery violet theme.
The first thing that crosses my mind when I first smell a fragrance is what it reminds me of. Kudos if it's unlike anything I've ever smelled before, but more often than not, it conjures memories of something else. While LiB opens with a nice, dry iris note, it soon veers into a sweet, powdery violet, reminiscent of Guerlain's Meteorites, and even more so of Penhaligon's Violetta. LiB definitely has much more complexity, but doesn't move into the genius of something like Guerlain's strange and beautiful iris/violet masterpiece - Apres L'Ondee.
Not the most original, but good quality and no doubt a worthy addition to the violet-lover's collection.
