Eau de Lierre (Diptyque)

By Dane

My first thought of Eau de Lierre (Ivy Water) was its resemblance to En Passant. Same perfumer perhaps? My next thought was how it also reminded me of Navegar, not to mention Andre Putman's beautiful Preparation Parfumee. Olivia Giacobetti's signature is all over this one, but I can't confirm if she created it with any certainty. If not, she has received the most sincere form of flattery - imitation.

EdL opens with a nice peppered aquatic note, not far from the wet concrete of En Passant (minus the strange bread accord). As with many of Diptyque's fragrances, it is somewhat linear and muted. I have no idea if this is what ivy smells like, but the dewy, green effect is hyper-realistic of a garden after the rain. EdL manages to have wet characteristics, but differs from others like it in that it almost smells warm, like a hot summer shower. The drydown is mostly a vegetal musk, although the aquatic elements remain throughout.

Not the most original, but pleasant and wearable nevertheless. If you like the other scents mentioned, you'll probably like EdL as well.

Year: 2006
