Bois de Turquie (Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier)

By Dane

Before we talk about the scent, let's talk about the name. The people who title perfumes must get a good laugh at the idea of Mr. Middle-America telling an inquirer he's wearing Bois de Turquie. This ranks as one of the worst names of the year (along with The Different Company's Sublime Balkiss...seriously).

Alright, on to the scent itself. Quite complex and very pleasant overall. Skillfully combined opening notes of fruit and citrus, middle notes of incense and spices, and a drydown of sweet woods and patchouli. It recalls Ulrich Lang's Anvers 2 with its three distinct stages, and I'd have a tough time deciding which of the two I preferred. This is Maitre Parfumeur's first men's release in years, and although it veers away from Jean Laporte's style, I think it fits in with the others nicely. Definitely worth trying.

My suggestion on what to say when someone asks what that wonderful smell is - "it translates to Turkish Woods". Most people don't ask anything further once they realize you didn't buy it at the mall.

Year: 2008
