Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin (Lolita Lempicka)

By Dane

Following Lolita Lempicka's successful women's fragrance in the late 90's, comes the masculine version. Where the women's borrowed elements of classic orientals and added some interest with the use of licorice notes, Au Masculin is more of a straight-up interpretation of the same ingredient, done with contrasting wood and floral tones.

LLAM is probably the best licorice interpretation on the market today. While there are distinct top, middle and base notes in the composition, licorice remains the star throughout. Opening with green notes and candied anise, LLAM has a fresh feeling about it that reminds me of Indian candied fennel (or Goodies to some), but as floral and wood notes work their way in, a warmer, oriental vibe takes over. If it reminds you of Bvlgari Black or Dior's Bois d'Argent, you're noticing the brilliant signature of Annick Menardo.

Hideous bottle, but I guess it represents the wood notes and the violet-coloured tones of the fragrance. I still worry that Smurfs may live in it secretly.

Year: 2000
Perfumer: Annick Menardo
Notes: Green Ivy, Anise, Absinth, Violet, Barley Water, Rum, Cedar, Cistus, Tonka Bean, Vanilla
