I was a tad harsh with my last review for Miller Harris' Feuilles de Tabac, but after smelling L'Air de Rien, my interest in this company has been restored. L'Air de Rien is nothing short of spectacular.
What can I say...L'Air is SKANKY. This is the only rival I've encountered that could trump Muscs Koublaï Khän. While MKK adds warm, sweet elements to the animalic qualities, L'Air adds a smoky, mossy note that marries beautifully with the musk. Although the opening is rather harsh with its heavy dose of civet, a dry, incense-like accord soon presents itself and is remarkably well paired with the wild beast notes. The skank is present all the way through to the drydown, but a warm amber joins in to soften the edges.
I don't know much of Jane Birken, for which this fragrance was designed, but she must be quite the lady to pull off such a scent. Everything about L'Air de Rien screams "ballsy". Easily one of the best dirty musks money can buy.
