Gaultier2 (Jean Paul Gaultier)

By Dane

JPG's Gaultier2 is a unisex offering with a simplistic, linear formula. The fragrance is said to only contain three elements - amber, vanilla, and musk.

Gaultier has always produced items with a balance of masculine and feminine, so it was only a matter of time before a unisex fragrance was released. G2 opens with a very sweet, candied orange blossom note. Very edible, and rather nice. From there, a vanillic musk continues through the life of the scent and there isn't much development beyond that. I can't see this appealing to the kind of guys that want to smell rough and tough, but I think it would be a nice scent to encounter on the right person....man or woman.

G2 is very approachable. Essentially a sweet musk that borders on smelling more like a body product than a true perfume. I admire its simplicity, but I prefer the more complex variation on the theme as seen (smelled) in Etat's Divin'Enfant. G2 is much easier on the wallet though, so it would be tough to justify dropping the cash on Etat's rendition (which also doesn't last as long on the skin). The main difference between the two would be that Divin'Enfant dries down to a more animalic musk, while G2 fades very slowly to a clean laundry musk. I prefer the dirtier musk, but I suppose smelling like a vanilla Bounce sheet has its appeal.

Apparently the bottles are magnetic...not sure what purpose that would serve.
