What comes across as a simple, straightforward scent is, in reality, quite complex and captivating. En Passant (in passing) is said to be modeled after lilac, fresh bread, and wet pavement, all captured at once in passing. I don't know if the perfume came first or the story, but it describes EP perfectly.
Lilac opens the show with EP, but just when you're about to think "oh no, bathroom air freshener", a strange, cold note comes into play along with yet another strange, warm bread note. Bread might be something that sounds peculiar as an accord in a perfume, but it can add a genius depth to the right composition, as seen in Guerlain's newly reformulated Mitsouko, Issey Miyake's Feu d'Issey, and L'Artisan's Bois Farine.
The drydown of EP is also worth noting. While the heart of the scent is cool with hints of cucumber, the base is warmer, almost vanilla-like, but with an aquatic, watery undertone.
A truly interesting and compelling scent. The word "lilac" would scare most guys off right away, but give En Passant a shot before jumping to conclusions.
