Never say never. I've always hated the smell of cloves, and Diptyque has one of the most potent clove scents on the market - L'Eau. I can understand the appeal of L'Eau with its spicy, sutry potpourri qualities, but the clove is overpowering. Eau Lente is a perfect compromise.
The clove in EL is still very prominent, but the sweetness of vanilla and opoponax temper clove's unruly behaviour and keep it in check. Opoponax (also known as sweet myrrhe) is a herb which produces a fragrant, sweet and ambery resin. Opoponax is a common ingredient in rich oriental perfumes, yet doesn't feel heavy in EL.
Recommended for the clove fans (there must be at least one of you), or for the rest of us to get over our cloveaphobia.
