Santa Maria Novella continue to release fascinating modern scents to add to their collection of historical recipes. Citta di Kyoto is very intriguing with stark contrasts between citrus, woods, fruit, and flowers.
CdK opens with a cold citrus accord paired with rooty iris. From there a certain brightness takes over and fruity elements of peach and orange come into the mix (which remind me of Guerlain's Chant d'Amour). It seems as though someone couldn't decide whether this was to appeal to a man or woman, so a chilled, masculine opening was combined with a softer, feminine heart, which proceeds into a more ambiguous woody drydown with a sharp edge.
I like certain parts in the development of CdK more than others, but overall it's a winner in my books and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something unusual. Lasting power is also excellent for cologne-strength.
