White Musk for Men is a re-worked, less sweet and more masculine version of The Body Shop's original White Musk, which was released in 1981. WMfM is often considered an "index" white musk, embodying the light, clean, fresh aspects of musk, if that's not an oxymoron.
That's the reputation, anyway. On my skin, which often finds roses where others find cat butt, WMfM has a bit of skank to it, especially when first applied. With lavender as a top note, this is unexpected, but I found the opening to be quite thick and sultry; I could taste it in the back of my throat.
After time, it dries out a bit, as the sandalwood and vetiver come into play. It does not become soapy or detergent-like, and it never loses the salty, musky tang. This is a fairly linear scent.
It is light enough for warm weather wear, and seems to become lighter and less sweet in the drydown, the reverse of what one usually encounters. Not as long lasting as one might expect.
This was quite inexpensive, at US $20 just a couple of months ago, but it is now $30; a pretty hefty increase. Must contain a lot of petrochemicals. It was a bargain before, but now, I am not so sure.
