Un Parfum de Charmes et Feuilles (The Different Company)

By Dane

Part of The Different Company's "garden trio", Un Parfum de Charmes et Feuilles is probably the most interesting of the lot, although Un Parfum d'Ailleur et Fleurs remains my favourite, while Un Parfum des Sens et Bois is probably the fan-favourite overall.

UPdCeF (oy) opens with an interesting mint and citrus accord, quickly followed by floral notes of jasmine. The minty character remains throughout the life of the scent, and I'd hazard a guess that many would interpret the overall feeling as a bit "cleaning product". I've mentioned before how adding mint to a composition can be a tricky...well...trick, but Celine Ellena, in my opinion, pulls it off without encountering the dreaded toothpaste-vibe. The jasmine note softens the rigid herbal notes with an almost fruity affect and takes some of the focus away from the mint once the initial blast softens. There seem to be a heavy-hand of synthetics thrown in though, which brings the detergent thoughts to mind. That aside, I still happen to like it.

Cool and fresh scents don't typically draw my attention, but UPdCeF would be a great choice for warmer weather. TDC's bottles remain a sight to behold - heavy brass lids and chunky glass bottles are bound to attract not just the perfume crowd, but the design-conscious crowd as well.
