Messe de Minuit is the perfect example of knowing a perfume is beautiful, but never actually wanting to wear it. Etro has some excellent scents, and MdM is the darkest, most daring of the lot. Every perfume house has (or attempts to have) an incense, and Etro's is rich, spicy and potent.
MdM opens with a strange, mulled cider accord of citrus, cinnamon, and clove (the one ingredient to instantly ruins something for me). A urinous, honeyed incense and myrrh combo follows as the scent darkens into a musty concoction with notes of patchouli and amber. Although the scent itself is quite strong in the beginning, it is an "eau de cologne" concentration and doesn't last very long on the skin.
Brilliantly composed, a bit odd, and on the opposite spectrum of wearable in my books. As much as I love the unusual, I'll continue to love MdM from afar. Highly recommended for the hardcore incense lover...for the rest, try before you buy.
