I'll say this first - MB02 was a big disappointment for me. Coming from Mark Buxton, one of my favourite perfumers and the author of several of the best Comme des Garcons scents, I expected something strange and daring. What I got was a bottle of nothing...
A niche company like Biehl likely doesn't skimp on the budget. '02 also focuses on violet - one of the most beautiful and stunning notes used in perfumery (although entirely synthetic). These factors lead me to believe that this would be a winner...but when I smell it, I get nothing. Literally! I sprayed and sprayed and sprayed to no avail. I can get some extremely faint floral hints, but overall it just smells like alcohol...and then nothing.
Either I'm anosmic to several of the main ingredients in this composition, or someone forgot to put in the perfume concentrate when mixing it with the ethanol. One thing's for certain though, a loud fragrance this is not.
I look forward to trying Buxton's other two scents for Biehl in hoping that MB02 was a temporary lapse in judgement. I'm all for "beautifully subtle", but this has gone too far (or rather, not far enough).
I'll leave you with a quote from Biehl's website describing MB02...perhaps I should have seen this coming:
"relaxed avant-garde. very sophisticated, very casual, very mmm."
