Mandragore (Annick Goutal)

By Dane

Annick Goutal's Mandragore is allegedly based on the Mandrake plant. Assuming you've seen/read Harry Potter, you have an idea of the mystical associations that follow it. I have not had the pleasure of smelling the real thing, but Goutal's intepretation would lead me to believe it smells like citrus...which I doubt is the case.

I'll admit, Mandragore is a beautiful scent, but Goutal's wispy citrus fragrances leave me wanting more. They're so sheer and light that you have to struggle to smell them at all. Mandragore adds a bit more interest than L'Eau d'Hadrien with its herbal/anisic edge, but it's not what I'd call a drastic departure. Less than an hour after spraying it on...it has all but vanished.

Goutal packages several of their unisex scents in both a masculine and feminine bottle (containing the same juice). The ladies' version of Mandragore also comes in a stronger Eau de Parfum concentration, so hopefully it packs a bit more punch than the Eau de Toilette. Given the nature of most men though, the EDP would not be approached due to its frilly packaging.

Year: 2005
