I try my very best to not form an impression of a scent based on name alone, but sometimes that name has so much press following it that I can't help but have some premature notions. With David Beckham's Instinct, I admit I was expecting the worst. Probably cheap, probably harsh, probably bad. In fact, Instinct is not bad at all...but as far as impressions go, it doesn't leave much of one.
When I first sampled Instinct, I was welcomed with a nice (albeit completely synthetic) citrus topnote. Ten minutes later, everything had vanished. I headed back to the counter and gave my hand a good soaking, enjoyed the lemony goodness, and was fully expecting another vanishing act. What I was actually left with was a very soft, green accord drying down to an even softer aquatic amber. No notes distinctly jump out at you, and frankly I'd be shocked it contained even one natural ingredient.
Not even close to anything ground-breaking, but at the same time completely harmless, fun, and inoffensive...which, for the picture I had painted, a pleasant surprise. Good for the days when you don't want to overwhelm your senses. For Posh's sake though, I hope Becks has more personality than his cologne.
