Gucci Pour Homme II (Gucci)

By Dane

Gucci Pour Homme II takes its cue not from the original GPH, but instead from the ginger note of Gucci's Envy (for men). Both the original and Envy (not to mention the sadly discontinued Rush) were innovative and striking. GPHII fails miserably at even coming close to its predecessors.

Opening with a mildly pleasant fruity-melon and violet leaf accord, GPHII looked promising and could have lived up to its Palm Beach packaging. But instead, things move into a sad, lightly gingered tea that moves into an even sadder generic amber drydown. A thin, pale failure.

Reserved for anonymous "secret santa" gift giving and destined for discontinuation.

  1. Gosh, I don't agree with your negative assessment of this scent at all.

It has a refreshing and slightly woodsy smell, livened with tea and citrus. None of its accords are very strong or fight to dominate each other. There is a subtle interplay that has medium lasting power and can be vaguely smelled even at the end of the day.

I bought this for only $44 at CVS. Call me tacky for bringing price up, but it retails for about half of L'Artisan Parfumeur's - Tea for Two.

Among the department store brand names, this one has a unique scent that sets it apart and does it without overwhelming the wearer.
