Rose Poivree - Old vs. New (The Different Company)

By Dane

In my previous review of Rose Poivree, I mentioned the alleged change in formulation. I had a chance to compare the two side-by-side, and I found the following differences...

The newer is much "rosier" up top, with a heavy sprinkle of black pepper. Gone is the punch-in-the-face cumin (much like Ellena's Declaration for Cartier). The new topnotes seem to emphasize the expensive rose absolute. The body and drydown are similar, but the new is much tamer and softer. The vetiver and civet are also much calmer. Overall the newer has less of a skanky smell, and is much more presentable and a bit more feminine...take that how you like. I love the original RP, but the new has somehow rekindled my love for it...I'm almost tempted to buy a bottle of the new!

Some physical differences have also taken place. The old RP had a straw-yellow colour to the liquid, whereas the new seems a much darker amber. I almost mistook it for Jasmin de Nuit at first glance. The bottles have also been updated. They're now slimmer and the large, heavy cap is now smaller and lighter (reference is for the 90ml bottle).
