Rhubarb (Comme des Garcons)

By Dane
Rhubarb is a strange fruit. When I was a child, I remember it growing behind my grandmother's house. She would cut the stocks and boil them with sugar to make jam. The smell of the rhubarb on the stove would make me feel nauseous...a bitter, pungent aroma. I avoided eating anything that contained rhubarb like the plague. The only time I would ever turn down a piece of pie!

When Comme des Garcons released their Sherbet series in 2003, I was most intrigued by Peppermint. I was hoping it would be as stunning as their now discontinued Mint scent from the Green Series. While at the CDG shop in London to try it (which was a huge disappointment), I thought I'd take a whiff of the Rhubarb, mentally preparing to not humiliate myself and start gagging in the shop. I was pleasantly surprised (and relieved)!

Rhubarb is a beautifully simple, sweet concoction of tart red fruit, dry woods and creamy vanilla. I loved it so much I bought both the spray bottle and the solid...both of which I used up in no time. For someone that has as many perfumes as I do, that's not a common occurrence!

A great summer scent that is both uncomplicated and interesting all at once. Longevity isn't great with the spray, and projection isn't great with the solid. Buy both.
