Magnolia Romana (Eau d'Italie)

By Dane
I greatly anticipated the release of Magnolia Romana for several reasons. I happen to love Magnolia trees and the way they smell, I also happen to love Betrand Duchaufour's work with Eau d'Italie, and the news of him taking the position of in-house perfumer at L'Artisan Parfumeur meant this could be his last creation for them.

I'm both pleased and disappointed with this scent. Its a cool, watery creation that is easy to wear, fresh, and great for the upcoming warm months. But on the other hand, its not unusual, dark, or groundbreaking...things I expect from Duchaufour.

Overall the scent is very pale with ozonic notes, watery lotus, a hint of floral (lily), and lots of green. A minty, herbal notes keeps the aquatic, synthetic notes from cheapening the composition, and a clean musk keeps the scent lingering on your skin for some time. The overall impression of magnolia is present, but more of the entire tree rather than the flower itself. MR could easily have been part of Comme des Garcons' Leaves Series (some of which were also created by Duchaufour).

Pleasant and wearable, but hardly up to par with the caliber of Eau d'Italie's and Duchaufour's latest offerings....for some reason I still want a bottle though. Curious.
