Bvlgari Homme (Bvlgari)

By Dane

Bvlgari continues its theme of understated, elegant selections with Bvlgari Homme, released in 1995. I'd classify BH as a slightly spicy, masculine, vegetal musk. Opening with a spicy peppered note, and possibly a trace of cumin, BH slowly fades into an attractive, skin musk. Vegetal musks can be obtained through various plant ingredients, such as ambrette seed and angelica root. Bvlgari keeps things vague with its description "various precious musks", but nothing smells animalic in the least.

My automatic association with BH was Frederic Malle's Angelique Sous La Pluis, a beautifully cold vegetal musk. BH adds a spicier, slightly floral tone and dries down to a woody (read - Iso E Super) and amber-ish accord. Overall its quite pleasant and easy to wear.

Various flankers have followed its success (Intense, Soir), though they lack the classic composure of the original.
