Yet another beautiful addition to Les from Chanel. 31 Rue is the chypre of the family, and all done without using oakmoss (quite a feat apparently).
There are dozens of reviews online for 31, and while I understand the frenzy for it, I can't help but place it slightly lower in perspective than my latest chypre-love, Enlevement au Serail (MDCI). While MDCI's scent dries down into a beautifully mossy, masculine accord, 31 veers in a different direction that doesn't appeal to me. I'd describe it as a peachy, dust-on-the-radiator scent. Its a bit unsettling for me, no doubt due to some strange association.
Among its qualities, 31 does have a stunning iris note similar to that of 28 La Pausa. Spraying it on paper prolonged this (my favourite part), but on skin it came and went quite quickly.
31 is a stunning fragrance, definitely worth trying and worthy of being in Chanel's upscale collection. In the chypre battle, a strong contender, but 1st runner up isn't good enough in such a competitive field.
