Dior Homme (EDT, Cologne, Intense) (Dior)

Dior Homme is yet another example of a successful fragrance for men that could easily pass for women's.

Created in 2005 by Olivier Polge, DH opens with a cold, grey iris note. I fell in love at first sniff...but just as quickly as it comes, it disappears to leave a rather warm, sweet, ambery tobacco-like scent. I'll admit that I was disappointed to see the iris go away so quickly, but no one can deny that what's to come isn't just as striking. DH dries down to a similar, amber-wood accord, and keeps its powdery qualities.

The aspects that I didn't like about the original Eau de Toilette were the sweet, feminine aspects. Dior Homme Intense (a limited edition) emphasizes these aspects and turns the original into a warm, syrupy gourmande-like scent. Dior Homme Colonge does the exact opposite. The sweetness is turned down, citrus is added to the top, and an overall rooty dryness is emphasized. Dior seems to have covered its bases with something for everyone.

The bottle itself is also worth mentioning. A large, heavy block of glass with the inner spray-tube covered with a metal sheath. The Intense version adds a smokey hue to the glass, while the Cologne elongates the original.
