Clair de Musc (Serge Lutens)

By Dane

White musks aren't exactly difficult to come by. The quality of the musks, however, can vary drastically. Serge Lutens' Clair de Musc is a beautiful, vegetal musk with a floral undertone.

CdM opens with a faint citrus note, and a very powdery, feminine musk. Once the heart of the fragrance shows itself, the feminine aspects diminish and the floral notes appear. I can detect a slight orange blossom note, as well as a dry iris feeling. Overall, the floral aspect is something you'd have to dig for, but adds a welcome touch.

Musk is a note that many people have a hard time smelling, and this is no exception. Not for someone looking for a powerful show stopper, but perfect for someone who likes soft scents, and wants something slightly more complex than your average drugstore musk.
